Keith is a small farming town in the south-east of South Australia. It is sometimes referred to as the 'lucerne capital of Australia' due to the high number of lucerne growers in the region. The local industry is predominantly grain production and livestock grazing.

History
A large granite outcrop outside the town called Mount Monster was a basis for the area's name until it was surveyed in 1884 and officially proclaimed Keith in 1889. It is believed that the town is named after the home town of the Governor of South Australia at the time, Lord Kintore.

Local artist James Darling designed the local water feature, which celebrates the cycle of water through the Australian landscape and the region's widespread water irrigation.

The Andy Caldecott Memorial
Andy Caldecott was Australia's greatest ever rally rider being a 4 time Australian safari winner and born and breed from Keith.
Sadly, Andy passed away while competing in the 2006 DAKAR. Winner of Stage 3, he was currently in 6th place when tragedy struck. During the 9th stage in Mauritania, Andy crashed fatally at the 250km point.

The AMP Memorial commemorates the land clearance scheme between 1950 and 1964 when the AMP Society developed large areas of grazing land around Keith for sale to farmers. The early Land-Rover was essential to off-road travel. The Memorial was erected in 1995.
